Dear Beloved People of God,Mighty is the Spirit of God in You.
But you belong to God, my children, and have defeated the false prophets, because the Spirit who is in you is more powerful than the spirit in those who belong to the world. (1 John 4:4, GNT)These are difficult times we find ourselves in. People are out of work, remain at home, trying to make sense of what the next day holds. Due to the coronavirus many people are sick or have died. And, you don’t have to be inside the blast zone to feel the effects of this dangerous virus. Businesses have stopped, only essential work moves forward. The circumstances we are going through can build our faith or send us into a downward fall of depression and hopelessness. We turn on the news and the messages seem to offer little hope or relief. The world constantly influences how we feel and think, and most of the time they leave out what God has to say about it all. The Apostle John wrote to all believers when he said the Spirit who is in you is more powerful than the spirit in those who belong to the world. The Spirit of God in you is more powerful, more mighty than the spirit of the world. The spirit of the world puts their trust and love in pleasures of the flesh, entertainment, financial security, popularity, consumption, and gods of their making. The spirit of the world tells us just to do what feels good because tomorrow we may die. The world will offer a false sense of safety, and when crisis hits your life, you are left to figure out how you will survive. Good news! The Spirit of God is at work, he dwells in the hearts of believers, and he gives them light in times of darkness. You have a Lord who has defeated the power of the enemy, the power of death and the grave. You have a Lord who offers endless forgiveness to all who ask. A Lord who sent the Holy Spirit to live inside you. Mighty is the the Spirit of God in you. Without the Lord life is meaningless and random with good chance the outcome will be rather frightening. With the Lord we have hope for tomorrow and a Spirit of Might to face the circumstances that come our way. Mighty is the Spirit of God in the face of lies, bitterness, depression, sorrow, panic, anxiety and worry. Greater is he that is you than he who is in the world! What do you need the Spirit of God to help you say “no” too?
What do you need the Spirit of God to help you say “yes” too?
Grace and Peace be with you,
Pastor Xavier Torres
